The Thinking Center Types and their Relationship to Hopeful Thinking among a Sample of Master's Students at Damascus University

الملخص

This research aimed at identifying the relationship between the thinking center types (investigator, loyalist, and enthusiast) to hopeful thinking, identifying the prevalent personality type, identifying the level of hopeful thinking among a sample of master's students at Damascus University and measuring the differences in both of them according to variables of (gender, type of master, and type of faculty). The research sample consisted of (651) students, including (280) males, and (371) females at the master’s level of both types (academic, rehabilitation and specialty) in faculties (theoretical and applied) at the University of Damascus. The researcher followed the descriptive analytical method; the researcher used the scale of thinking center types (Enneagram), which prepared by (Riso & Hudson, 1995), and hopeful thinking scale which prepared by (Snyder, et.al, 1999). The research results indicated the following: - There is a positive and statistically significant correlation between the two personality types (investigator and enthusiast) and hopeful thinking.- The personality type (investigator) was the dominant pattern among the members of the research sample. - The level of hopeful thinking was medium for most members of the research sample.- There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the research sample members in the enthusiastic type according to variable of (gender) in favor of females. -There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of research sample in (investigator and loyalist) types according to variable of (type of master) in favor of academic master's students. -There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of research sample in (investigator and enthusiast) types according to variable of (type of faculty) in favor of applied faculties master's students.
- There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the research sample members on the hopeful thinking scale, according to the master's type variable in favor of the academic master's students.
