Determination of the Canadian water quality index of the Orontes River in Hama gouvernante for irrigation
الملخص
The Orontes River is one of the most important water sources that are used for irrigation and agriculture in Hama Governorate, hence the importance of determining the sources of pollution, their type and water quality in order to characterize the water condition of the Orontes River water in the Governorate. This study aims to assess the water quality of the Orontes River using the Canadian Water Quality Index (CCME), as an appropriate tool in classifying and studying the impact of spatial and temporal changes on pollution loads, to help manage the quality of rivers and water bodies. In this research (9) sampling sites were selected along the Orontes River in Hama Governorate to study water quality, and (7) parameters were selected to apply the Canadian water quality index and to show their suitability for water use in irrigation and agriculture (pH, 〖BOD〗_5, 〖NH〗_4^+, CL^-, 〖PO〗_4^-, TSS, Na^+) after applying Pearson correlation coefficient and One-Way ANOVA Statistical tests, and the results showed when measuring the CCME index and classifying its quality based on different conditions, with regard to spatial changes: the water quality in the sampling stations ( The exit of Al-Rastan Dam, Ghor Al-Asi, Al-Washahala Bridge, Al-Arba’ Nowair Bridge, Mahradeh Dam Lake) ranges between (80-91) and is good for use in irrigation and agriculture according to the Canadian Water Quality Index classification indicators, while the value of the water quality in sampling stations (Bridge Al-Daheriya, Cedar Bridge, Khattab Bridge) ranged between (70-77) and are acceptable for use in irrigation and agriculture according to the classification used in the study. Regarding seasonal changes: the percentage of water quality values in the spring and autumn ranged between (70-79) and it falls within the acceptable water classification according to the Canadian index. In the summer, the index value was 82.16, which is good for use in irrigation and agriculture. In the winter, the index value was 64.04 It is located within the marginal classification and therefore the water of the Orontes River is suitable for use in irrigation and agriculture in the seasons (spring, autumn, summer) and is not valid in winter.
