Effect of Obesity on Aggressive Behaviors in Adolescents

الملخص

Adolescents' obesity is considered one of the most important health issues facing the world due to its effects on health, economic, educational levels moreover, obese and overweight adolescents are not only at risk of physical disorders, such as high blood pressure, bone complications, and endocrine disorders, but they also have an increased risk of psychological and behavioral disorders. Studies have found that obese and overweight children tended to be more aggressive compared with their peers of medium weight, so this correlative study was done to evaluate the effect of obesity on aggressive behaviors among adolescents in a sample of 200 preparatory and high schools' students at Lattakia city who have a body mass index more than 30 kg/m2, the sample was chosen by cluster random sampling method. the data were collected using a questionnaire for demographic information (age, school year, gender…) and calculating Body Mass Index to determine the obesity level then answering the aggressive behavioral scale which consists of 30 phrases.
The results had shown that 78% of sample are obese class1 and 2% of them obese class2, the study also found statically important differences in anger among adolescents, the overweight adolescents were more anger than obese adolescents.
